Decir filosofía en Paraguay es decir positivismo, decir positivismo es decir Cecilio Báez. Una suerte de sociólogo nativista, impregnado de un positivismo vernacular. Quiere explicar la psicología de un pueblo por razones del medio físico. En su libro Geografía social, peca de un chusco sociologismo nacionalista: se vale de Azara cuando proclama que no hay en el mundo país más sano que Paraguay, de Rengger (la forma benigna del sífilis en Paraguay), de Du Graty (el tifus no se conocía en su época en nuestro país), comparte las opiniones de Bertoni: “el mundo debe a los guaraníes el mayor números de especies útiles”.
